About Alpaca and our Glamourous Alpaca Fur Hatsalpaca fur hats, which storm out of the door as soon as it gets really cold and are one of our bestselling (and favourite) products.
Alpaca has a luxurious, durable and silky natural fibre, and the weight depends on how it is spun. Whilst similar to sheep's wool it is warmer, not prickly, and hypoallergenic due to the fact that it contains no lanolin. This makes it perfect for anyone with allergies plus babies and little ones.
Alpacas have been bred in South America for thousands of years, and the fibre alpaca cushions are so soft and furry we describe them as such. Just get close to them and you'll see what we mean.
We import between 1.5 and 2 tons of raw alpaca fibre every year from Peru making a very real difference to farmers lives there. The fibre is processed into yarn and this is then sent to the dyer. The process for making our socks, via the yarn processing, dyeing and knitting (with sock toes all hand linked - done only by three factories in England) and finishing takes up to 9 months, which is why when we run out of something we will probably not be able to re-stock it until the following year.
Our alpaca fur hats are so glamorous and warm and they make wonderful gifts. Choose from our luxury alpaca fur hats and the slightly less expensive version which will also keep you incredibly warm. Having said that please don't leave it too late to order as we do run out of some styles and colours at this time of year.
We love the alpaca - not only are no animals harmed in the making of any of our products, but the quality and feel of alpaca socks and accessories make it so much more special than ordinary wool - we know that you agree with us.....
