Perilla Country Socks For Ride Round England!

William tells us:- 2,500 miles round England with a horse and no back up vehicle or crew needs careful preparation and minimum luggage. Its not the kilometres that breaks a horse but the kilograms. Perilla shooting socks met several criteria: warm, long, no/low wash need, red, double as slippers indoors. I bought a pair and wore them through months of training and preparation.

On 10 May my ride started with the socks on and they have been worn for over 1,800 miles. About 600 miles of that has been ridden but because of saddle sores I have been dismounted and leading for 1,200 miles. Strider and I have travelled from Cheltenham to the Solway Firth, the Northumberland coast, and the Kent coast via Gloucester, Hereford, Worcester, Coventry, Lichfield, Chester, Sheffield, Carlisle, Durham, Ripon, York, Lincoln, Southwell, Peterborough, Ely, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, St Albans, St Paul's, Southwark, Rochester and Canterbury.

Now we are heading for Lands End via Chichester, Winchester, Salisbury, Exeter and Truro. Then its home via Wells, Bristol, Oxford to Gloucester, Tewkesbury and his stable. With luck we will get home in mid-December. My socks have worn a bit thin at the heel so I am buying a second pair to see me through the last 850 miles and the colder weather.
